Being new to the challenges of starting a new business and to the self-storage industry I’ve found it difficult to know where to start.
It has been a long and arduous process. My husband and I bought a 5 ½ acre piece of land in beautiful Okanagan Falls, BC. For those of you who don’t know where that is, Ok Falls is located between Penticton and Oliver in the gorgeous South Okanagan. Forty five minutes north of the Canada/US border we are surrounded by lush vineyards, mouth-watering fruit trees, and warm crystal blue lakes.
My husband grew up immersed in the life of a real estate agent. His family owned a mini storage when he was young and he has had it in his mind ever since to own one himself. I, on the other hand, had no idea about real estate. The idea to buy land and buildings for investment were the farthest things from my mind. All of that has changed.
We built Easy Lock Self Storage from the ground up and are learning the ins and outs as each new day unfolds. Attending industry conferences, ‘following’ industry moguls on Twitter and Facebook, and taking self-storage courses have helped me learn more about my industry and all that is involved in running a mini storage.
Blogging, as well as most everything else I have been up to lately, is new to me. So I hope you jump in and offer comments and suggestions and enjoy the journey as I attempt my hand at the world of blogging.
